HSE Day 2019 was held at the Thunder Cranes yard in Labuan, on the 5th of December, with the participation of over 50 staff from TCSB, Thunder Oilfield Services (M) Sdn Bhd, DOSH Labuan, PCSB (SK OIL), and contractor staff from SGS (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd, and Justrite Construction and Services Sdn Bhd.

Initiated by Brain Ningkan, Thunder Cranes’ HSE Manager, with the theme “Our Health – Our Wealth”, the program was designed to highlight and promote good HSE practices. Achieving excellent HSE performance is a top priority of Thunder Cranes, and as CEO Chris Poheng mentioned in his opening remarks “conducting HSE campaigns is an important way to inculcate a strong HSE culture within an organisation”.

A safety moment and warm-up activities were followed by the main speakers who presented the key HSE topics of the day:

– Stress Management

– Water and Dehydration

– Ergonomics Risk, Manual Handling and Musculoskeletal Disorder

– Occupational Health and Industrial Hygiene

To end the morning session, a representative from Petronas Carigali – Steven Huang – presented the Focused Recognition Certificate to Thunder Cranes in recognition of our commitment in HSEMS implementation in particular organizing HSE Day programs for it stakeholders.

The afternoon session focused on team building games and was followed by the presentation of prizes and HSE recognition for staff as follows:

– HSE Staff Award 2019; Jackrinus Guadeh from Operations Dept

– Best STOP Card Award; Danny Clifford from Facilities & Maintenance Dept

– Most Supportive HSE Personality; Rick Stevie from Operations Dept

Speaking afterwards Brain Ningkan said that “The oil and gas industry has seen a trend of increased cases of medical evacuation (related to health) especially from offshore and cases of back injuries which may be due to prolonged exposure to ergonomic hazards.”

“This is why training and preaching of safe actions starts on day one and is repeated daily at Thunder Cranes,” Brain continued, “As we are in an industry where workers deal with stress, odd working hours, remote locations, and an array of physical and chemical hazards. Promoting good HSE practices helps ensure safe operations with lives and equipment protected.”
